A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM

I was Assistant Scenic Designer for this production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream (by William Shakespeare) with Central Theatre Ensemble in May of 2017. Below are some production photos from the show.

This process was a great exposure to paperwork for me, and has led to success down the road. The show was performed in a location that was, for several decades prior, just a storage room above our local museum. For scenic land as a whole this meant that we had to build all parts in house, then load them in and finish construction on location without the full range of tools we had in house. For my specific contributions, it meant a great deal of time went into drafting an accurate ground plan of the space we were working in (and accurate elevations). With the Guidance of Marc Haniuk, I was able to complete the paperwork and it proved itself to be properly accurate. One of the larger challenges posed by this show was the seating arrangement. In working with the ground plan we had a number of ideas for how seats should be arranged, and in the space we spent time arranging them properly as well. The seats were not wholly effective, and looking back it seems that risers would be more desirable to make sure everyone can see. As far as my contributions were concerned, they were a net success. My rendering of one location was effective at conveying information, the drafting was detailed and thorough, and I took notes and carried out messages effectively as an assistant.
